The number of healings of individuals recorded in the Old Testament does not compare with the considerable number detailed in the New Testament. During His three-year ministry, Jesus healed many times the numbers that were healed during the preceding 2,000 years. With the coming of the Messiah, there was a gushing forth of the mercies of God; and with this we notice that sickness or health is no longer emphasized as a means or judgment for sin or a reward for obedience. Rather, sickness is seen to be an extension and effect of sin, and therefore it is evil in origin and is a representation of the Kingdom of Darkness. We shall see that in the coming of Jesus, the Kingdom of God came with great power to confront and overcome sickness, sin, death and the devil.

However, this does not negate the Old Testament concept of healing, but it is rather a fuller revelation of God's unfolding plan. In reconciling the Old and New Testament under God's control, being His agent at times, although God Himself does not tempt anyone with evil. Disobedience and sin open us up to weakness, sickness and death; but even this is a means of discipline so that we are not condemned with the world
(1st Corinthians 11:28-32).
